Friday, June 19, 2015

FOURCHON, LA - More than $15,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs at the 67th Annual Golden Meadow-Fourchon Tarpon Rodeo, Thursday, July 2 through Saturday, July 4 at Moran’s Marina in Fourchon. Fishing begins at safelight on Thursday, and the weigh scales open at 1 p.m. on Friday. Scales for the Children’s Division close at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and all other divisions close at 5 p.m.

Entry fees are $35 for adults and $20 for children ages 4-12. Each rodeo ticket includes a rodeo book and towel, as well as a boiled shrimp dinner on Saturday, July 4. Additionally, each child participant who attends the award ceremony on Saturday evening will receive a free fishing rod and reel.

“We are excited to be able to give each child participant a free rod and reel again this year,” said Rodeo Admiral Eddie Callais. “That has been a staple of this rodeo for many years. We have always been a family-friendly rodeo, and we especially want every child to have a memorable experience.”

Food and drink booths open at 1 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday under the new, air-conditioned rodeo tent. The band Clustafunk will perform Friday night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the rodeo auction at 7:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at 9 p.m. Then on Saturday, the Cajun Music Preservation Society is slated to perform from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by the presentation of awards.

The rodeo’s annual King of the Catch Cook-off takes place on Friday, July 3 with Judging will begin at 4 p.m., and the public can purchase tickets to sample dishes and vote for their favorite. Cook-off entries are still being accepted via the rodeo’s website, and each entry comes with two complementary rodeo aprons. The winner in each category will receive a trophy and a $500 gift card to Kief Hardware.

This marks the first year of the rodeo’s new partnership with the Lafourche Chamber Foundation, the non-profit wing of the Lafourche Chamber of Commerce. This partnership allows for continued support of higher education as proceeds generated by the rodeo go toward funding scholarships for local high school students. Officials recently announced South Lafourche High School seniors Katie Duet and Cassie Verdin were the recipients of the 2015 scholarships in the amounts of $4,000 and $2,000, respectively.

Tickets and rodeo merchandise can be purchased online at www.fourchontarponrodeo.com where participants can also find a full list of rules and regulations and a full schedule of events. Follow the official rodeo profiles on Facebook and Instagram for exclusive contests and live updates.
